veroskills
Simplifying and humanizing the hiring process for both companies and candidates by redesigning user flow and product.
The Problem
The original business model was collapsing under its own complexity.
The hiring process for VeroSkills’ partner companies was breaking down at multiple points, from delayed onboarding to unengaged candidates. Companies faced decision fatigue and unclear ownership, while candidates from underserved communities were left waiting in limbo for work opportunities they needed immediately.
The Friction
Platform Resistance
Companies signed up but didn’t use the platform—upper management delegated it to TAs who resisted adopting it
Decision Fatigue
The hiring process was too manual, creating decision fatigue and confusion, and custom features per client made the product inconsistent and hard to maintain
Slow to Serve
Candidates—often refugees or immigrants—needed quick employment, but the process moved too slowly to serve them effectively
The Solution
We redefined what our product was.
Owned Our Flow
Established a single, well-defined process instead of customizing it per client
Reduced Decision Fatigue
Eliminated client platform interface entirely; VeroSkills handled candidate vetting and placement. Companies received pre-vetted candidates ready to hire — no logins, no reviews, no friction
Enhanced Candidate Flow
Introduced reliability testing via a series of onboarding tasks, built an automated Postmark email system for consistent communication, and prioritized responsive, mobile-first design.
I wore many hats 🎩🧢👒
Collaborated on AI tools & features
including Vera, VeroSkills’ AI Interviewer, helping shape interaction flows that assessed candidates’ qualifications and fit
Adopted a hybrid design-development workflow
leveraging Vercel and the updated design system to build and ship front-end pages directly into production
Prioritized mobile-first UI & responsive design
to ensure mobile browser compatibility for users and to align with user research that showed most candidates relied on mobile access
Reimagined VeroSkills’ online story
by redesigning their website, creating sales and marketing pitches, and collaborating on social media posts, marketing videos, and ad postings
The Conclusion
Intentional redesign makes real impact
Working at VeroSkills taught me that design isn’t just about pixels or layouts—it’s about systems, collaboration, and the courage to redefine how a product should work. I learned to design not just for usability, but for scalability and trust
